A two-run homer by Carl Yastrzemski in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Red Sox to a 9-8 triumph over the Angels. The Angels had taken a 8-7 lead in the top of the frame on a two-run homer by Brian Downing.

In the Sox' half, Jim Rice drew a one-out walk and Yaz then belted the ball deep into the right field seats. Fred Lynn clouted a two-run homer in the sixth and a three-run clout in the seventh, giving him 13 for the season. [The Sporting News]
