Rallying for five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, the A's notched a 7-5 win over the Red Sox. The outburst began with two runs on consecutive singles by Wayne Gross, Jim Essian and Dwayne Murphy and a pinch-hit double by Jeff Newman that chased Red Sox starter Bob Stanley.

Dick Drago came on in relief to retire Mike Edwards and walk Joe Wallis intentionally to fill the bases. Mario Guerrero fanned, but Mitchell Page beat out an infield hit to tie the score at 5-5. Dave Revering then capped the inning with a two-run single. The Red Sox stranded 18 runners. [The Sporting News]
