In a brilliant relief performance, John D'Acquisto allowed only one fluke hit in six innings as the Padres defeated the Phillies, 5-0, in a game delayed three times by rain. There was wait of 38 minutes to begin with and then delays of 61 minutes after the third.

The only hit off D'Acquisto came in the seventh when Dave Rader rapped a grounder that hit baserunner Tim McCarver for an automatic single. Gene Tenace and Dave Winfield each drove in two runs. [The Sporting News]
