With Mike Schmidt driving home the tying and winning runs, the Phillies edged the Dodgers, 4-3, in 10 innings. The Dodgers led, 3-2, going into the bottom of the eighth inning, but the Phillies tied the score on a single by Schmidt following walks to Larry Bowa and Greg Luzinski.

Bowa opened the bottom of the 10th with a base on balls and advanced to second on a wild pitch. After Pete Rose was given an intentional walk, Schmidt delivered the game-winning hit off Lance Rautzhan. [The Sporting News]
