Marc Hill and Terry Whitfield drove in four runs apiece and Vida Blue gained his fourth straight victory as the Giants outlasted the Padres, 14-10. Three of Hill's RBIs came off a homer in the third inning. Whitfield singled home two runs in the sixth and tripled home two more in the seventh, while Bill North added a pair of doubles, driving in two runs.

Losing pitcher Mickey Lolich, although lasting only 2 2/3 innings, notched two strikeouts to run his career total to 2,819, tying him with Cy Young for fifth place on the all-time list. [The Sporting News]
