. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Shutout pitching by Dennis Eckersley enabled the Red Sox to beat the Tigers, 6-0, and stay within one game of the first-place Yankees in the East division. The Bosox scored three runs in the first inning, two coming on a double by Fred Lynn and another on a grounder by Carl Yastrzemski. Jim Rice connected for a two-run homer in the fifth following a single by Jerry Remy, and Rick Burleson drove in the sixth marker with a sixth-inning single. [The Sporting News]
