Completing a sweep of the five-game series, the Rangers won a doubleheader from the Mariners, 5-3 and 4-3. A squeeze bunt by Mike Jorgensen in the second inning produced Texas' first run of the opening game. A double by Al Oliver plated two more tallies in the third frame and Pat Putnam cracked his first major league homer to lead off the fourth.

In the second contest, rookie righthander Danny Darwin got credit for his first big league win as another rookie, Billy Sample, hit a two-run double in the first inning to start the Rangers off to their victory. [The Sporting News]
