Recording his 12th complete game of the season, Dennis Martinez tossed a three-hitter as the Orioles prevailed over the Red Sox, 3-2. After the Red Sox jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Orioles tied the game in the fifth on three consecutive errors, a run scoring when pitcher Mike Torrez threw a sacrifice bunt into left field.

After Butch Hobson put the Red Sox ahead again in the bottom of the fifth with a solo homer, the Orioles tallied twice in the sixth on a walk to Ken Singleton, back-to-back singles by Doug DeCinces and Eddie Murray and a grounder by Lee May. [The Sporting News]
