The Bucs scored three runs in their first turn at bat on a single by Omar Moreno, a stolen base, single by Dave Parker and two-run homer by Willie Stargell. They added two in the second on a walk to Ed Ott, singles by Phil Garner and Frank Taveras and a sacrifice fly by Moreno.

Three runs in the eighth on a single by Stargell, sacrifice fly by Bill Robinson and double by John Milner insured the victory. Kent Tekulve set a Pirates' club record with his 73rd appearance of the season. [The Sporting News]
