Ron Cey homered in the sixth to put the Dodgers ahead, 3-2, before the Giants rallied to tie the score in the top half of the ninth. Willie McCovey singled and gave way to pinch-runner Johnnie LeMaster.

After the Dodgers brought Terry Forster to the mound in relief of Burt Hooton, Darrell Evans sacrificed and Mike Ivie delivered a pinch-single to knot the count. In the Dodgers' half, Joe Ferguson singled with one away and, after two out, Lee Lacy also singled.
