After getting a bases-loaded double by Bill Buckner in the fifth inning, the Cubs needed an unearned run in the sixth to edge the Pirates, 5-4. In the fifth, Dave Roberts and Ivan DeJesus both beat out bunts and Rodney Scott was hit by a pitch to fill the bases before Buckner's two-bagger put the Cubs ahead, 4-2.

The Pirates then tied the score, but the Cubs put over the winning run in the sixth when Tim Blackwell was safe on an error, advanced on an infield out and scored on a double by Scott. [The Sporting News]
