The batting of Jerry Mumphrey and Steve Swisher enabled the Cardinals to end their seven-game losing streak with a 5-3 victory over the Mets. Mumphrey hit his first homer of the season and the first of his career at Busch Stadium following singles by George Hendrick and Keith Hernandez in the first inning. Swisher then accounted for the Cards' winning margin with a two-run single in the third.
