. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Pete Rose had his hitting streak halted at 44 games while the Reds were losing to the Braves, 16-4. The Cincinnati third baseman walked in the first inning, lined out to pitcher in the second, lined out to shortstop in the fifth, lined out to third base in the seventh and struck out in the ninth. His first three trips to the plate were against Braves' starter Larry McWilliams and the last two against reliever Gene Garber.

Meanwhile, Bob Horner drove in four runs in leading the Braves' attack. Horner's homer -- a three-run shot -- and another blast by Dale Murphy came in the fifth inning when the Braves broke a tie with a five-run rally. Barry Bonnell, who homered to lead off the seventh, also doubled home a run in the first and singled home another in the fifth. [The Sporting News]
