The Cards took a 2-1 lead in the sixth, but the Padres tied the contest in the bottom of the frame on a homer by Oscar Gamble. Derrel Thomas opened the Padres' seventh with a walk and after Fernando Gonzalez sacrificed, Buddy Schultz relieved Card starter Bob Forsch.
