Brian Downing, who later left the game with a broken finger, had three singles and two RBIs to pace the Angels to a 4-2 victory over the Orioles. Downing singled home runs in the second and eighth innings but was forced to retire in the bottom of eighth after being struck by a foul tip off the bat of Ken Singleton.
