Bob Owchinko extended his mastery of Cardinals to six straight games -- four last season and two this year -- when the young lefthander pitched the Padres to a 7-3 victory. The Cards took a 2-1 lead against Owchinko, but Ozzie Smith singled in the fifth inning, Broderick Perkins tripled and Dave Winfield doubled to send the Padres ahead.

Gene Richards homered with a man on base in the sixth and the Padres then wrapped up their scoring with a pair in the seventh on singles by Perkins, Winfield and Gene Tenace, together with a wild throw by Tony Scott. [The Sporting News]
