A throwing error by L. A. reliever Terry Forster permitted the winning run to score as the Pirates outlasted the Dodgers, 7-6, in 10 innings. Ed Ott led off the Buc 10th by beating out an infield hit but was forced at second by Phil Garner on an attempted sacrifice.

With the infield drawn in expecting a bunt, Bruce Kison singled past third baseman Lee Lacy, sending Garner to third. Frank Taveras then hit a chopper back to Forster but the pitcher threw wildly past first base to allow the winning run to cross the plate. After a see-saw early struggle, the Dodgers had tied the contest in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Reggie Smith. [The Sporting News]
