Rob Andrews hit the first major league home run of his career and Gary Lavelle pitched brilliantly in relief to give the Giants a 9-7 triumph over the Cardinals. With the score 7-7 going into the top of the ninth, Andrews hit the first offering of reliever Buddy Schultz over the left field fence. Frisco tallied an additional run in that inning on singles by Terry Whitfield, Dave Clark and Willie McCovey.

The circuit clout was the first for Andrews in 1,228 official big league at-bats. Lavelle, entering the game with the score tied, the bases loaded and one out in the eighth, got pinch-hitter Lou Brock to bounce into a forceout at the plate and then fanned Garry Templeton on three pitches.
