Although needing late relief help from Ron Reed, Dick Ruthven stifled his former mates as the Phillies eased past the Braves, 4-2. The Phils took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Greg Luzinski led off with a walk and came home on a double by Richie Hebner.

Hebner advanced to third on a single by Jose Cardenal and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ted Sizemore. Cardenal hit a solo homer in the seventh and the Phils got their final marker in the eighth on a single by Sizemore, a sacrifice and a single by Larry Bowa. [The Sporting News]
