A two-run homer by Bobby Murcer triggered the Cubs to a 4-1 victory over the Mets. Murcer hit his round-tripper in the third inning after a two-out single by Bill Buckner. The Cubs scored again in the sixth on singles by Steve Ontiveros, Manny Trillo and Mike Gordon and added another run in the eighth on a walk, single and error.
