A homer by Greg Luzinski triggered a five-run second inning and Rawly Eastwick hurled 4 2/3 innings of one-hit relief as the Phillies slipped past the Expos, 7-6. After Luzinski's homer, Davey Johnson singled, Bob Boone reached first on an error by Larry Parrish and Ted Sizemore singled for one run. A single by Jim Kaat plated two more and a single by Jerry Martin drove in the fifth tally of the frame.

The Phils added another run in the third on a double by Jose Cardenal and a single by Johnson. Boone's fielder's choice in the fifth produced what proved to be the winning run after the Phillies loaded the bases on a single by Garry Maddox, double by Luzinski and pass to Cardenal.
