Montanez then smashed a two-base hit off reliever Lynn McGlothen. John Stearns drew a base on balls and Steve Henderson doubled home Montanez with the tying run.

Stearns scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch by reliever Donnie Moore and Henderson tallied the fifth run of the inning on an infield hit by Elliott Maddox.
