After blowing a 3-0 lead, the Giants came back to edge San Diego, 5-4, in 10 innings, snapping the Padres' four-game winning skein. The Padres led, 4-3, going into the bottom of the ninth when Willie McCovey blasted a two-out pinch-hit home run to effect a tie.

In the 10th, Jack Clark doubled with one out and continued to third on a throwing error by Dave Winfield. Two intentional walks loaded the sacks and pinch-hitter Jim Dwyer then stroked a sacrifice fly to plate Clark with the winning run. [The Sporting News]
