Completing the three-game series sweep and beating St. Louis for the ninth straight time this season, the Cubs downed the Cardinals, 5-1. After the Redbirds scored a run in the first inning on doubles by Jerry Mumphrey and Keith Hernandez, the Cubs got two tallies in the third. Mike Krukow singled to open the frame and took third on a single by Ivan DeJesus. A sacrifice fly by Greg Gross scored Krukow and DeJesus came home on a single by Bobby Murcer.

The Cubs made it 3-1 in the sixth on a double by Murcer, a groundout and a sacrifice fly by Manny Trillo. A single by Larry Cox and sacrifice fly by Gross produced two more runs in the ninth to complete the scoring. [The Sporting News]
