Dale Murphy drove in six runs with a grand-slam homer and a single to lead the Braves to a 9-7 scalping of the Giants. The grand slam came in the fifth inning off Vida Blue and gave the Braves a 5-4 lead. The Giants went ahead in the top of the seventh, scoring one run on a double by Terry Whitfield and two on a homer by Jack Clark.

In the bottom of the seventh, Gary Matthews singled with one out, Jeff Burroughs walked and Bob Horner delivered a double to plate one run. Murphy then drove in two tallies with a single. He moved to third on a single by Biff Pocoroba and scored when right fielder Clark threw wildly to third. [The Sporting News]
