A three-run outburst in the eighth inning gave the Indians a 6-3 decision over the Tigers. The score was 3-3 and with one out in the eighth when the winning rally began with walks to Paul Dade and pinch-hitter Johnny Grubb. After a single by Andre Thornton plated Dade, a single by Rick Manning sent Jack Morris to the showers.

Steve Foucault relieved and was tapped for an RBI single by Manning. Ted Cox walked to load the bases and Jim Norris drew a pass to force in Thornton. Jim Crawford replaced Foucault and finally put out the fire. The Tribe's first three tallies came in the third on a homer by Gary Alexander following a pair of walks.
