Five home runs, two of them by Chet Lemon, enabled the White Sox to post a 10-6 decision over the Mariners. Bob Molinaro led off the fourth inning with a round-tripper. Jorge Orta drew a walk in the same frame and scored on a circuit clout by Jim Breazeale. Don Kessinger hit a two-run homer in the sixth and Lemon smashed solo blasts in the seventh and ninth innings.

The Mariners, trailing 10-1 going into the bottom of the ninth, knocked starter Wilbur Wood out with a five-run rally that included a grand slam by John Hale, but reliever Rich Hinton came on to close out the game. [The Sporting News]
