A single by Enos Cabell with two out in the top of the ninth inning scored Terry Puhl from second base and gave the Astros a 4-3 triumph over the Dodgers. Puhl reached first on a base on balls with one out and was sacrificed to second. Cabell followed with his second hit and second RBI of the game.

The Astros had tied the contest in the seventh on a leadoff double by Puhl, sacrifice by Jesus Alou and infield out by Cabell. The Dodgers scored an unearned run in the sixth after a homer by Joe Ferguson had lifted the Astros to a 2-2 tie in the top of the inning.
