Fred Lynn drove in two runs with a two-out double in the eighth inning and then scored himself on an error as the Red Sox defeated the Mariners, 6-3, for their eighth straight victory. The Red Sox took a 3-0 lead in third, with Lynn hitting a single for one run.

The Mariners rallied to tie the score in the eighth, but in the Red Sox half Jerry Remy doubled and, after Jim Rice was retired, Carl Yastrzemski was handed an intentional pass. Dick Pole, pitching for the Mariners, got past Carlton Fisk for the second out, but Lynn then smashed his double. Lynn later scored himself on an error by Craig Reynolds. [The Sporting News]
