The Angels brought a four-hour, five-minute game to a close by scoring in the 12th inning on a pass to Lyman Bostock, sacrifice by Joe Rudi and single by Ron Jackson to defeat the Yankees, 4-3. Two Angel runners, Bobby Grich and Carney Lansford, were thrown out at the plate in the ninth.

Both benches emptied when a fight broke out after Lansford bowled over Yankee catcher Mike Heath. Yankee Manager Billy Martin and Heath were ejected.
