After Garry Maddox broke a 2-2 tie with a two-run homer in the seventh inning, the Phillies proceeded to defeat the Braves, 6-2, for their eighth straight victory. Dick Ruthven, pitching for the Braves, retired the first 14 batters, striking out seven, before the Phillies took a 2-1 lead.

Rod Gilbreath tied the score with a homer in the seventh, but the Phillies came right back with three runs in their half. Richie Hebner singled ahead of Maddox' homer and another run followed on singles by Bob Boone and Bake McBride around a sacrifice by Jim Morrison. [The Sporting News]
