Reitz gave the Cards a 1-0 lead with two outs in the sixth inning when he singled to score George Hendrick, who had opened the frame with a double.

In the eighth, Hendrick was hit by a pitch, moved to third on a single by Jerry Morales and came home on a single by Reitz. Vuckovich went 7 2/3 innings before being relieved by Littell, who came on to strike out Jeff Burroughs with two men on. [The Sporting News]
