Butch Hobson drove in four runs with a sacrifice fly and homer to lead the Red Sox to a 6-1 victory and ruin Jim Fregosi's debut as manager of the Angels. Fregosi, who replaced Dave Garcia, started Nolan Ryan but had to yank the fireballer after 4 1/3 innings.

Ryan gave up only five hits but walked six. The Angels committed three errors. Hobson accounted for his first RBI of the game with his sacrifice fly in the second inning and then hit his homer after Jack Brohamer and Dwight Evans drew passes in the fourth. [The Sporting News]
