Garner reached third on the play and scored when pitcher Randy Lerch balked.

The Phillies' run came in the bottom of the first when Larry Bowa singled and scored when third baseman Jim Fregosi threw wildly to first on a grounder by Mike Schmidt. Schmidt suffered a knee injury in running out the ball and had to leave the game. [The Sporting News]
