. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Jim Sundberg stretched his hitting streak to a club-record 19 games as the Rangers split a twi-night doubleheader with the Mariners. After the Mariners won the opener, 6-5, the Rangers came back to take the nightcap, 4-2. In the first game, a run-scoring double by Sundberg in the third inning helped the Rangers assume a 4-0 lead, but the Mariners rallied and went in front, 5-4, before Bobby Bonds tied the score in the ninth with his first homer in a Texas uniform. In the Mariners' half, Juan Bernhardt doubled and scored the winning run on a pinch-single by Leon Roberts.

Sundberg had two hits in the nightcap. Juan Beniquez and Bump Wills homered for the Rangers, who broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning on a double by Jim Mason, single by Mike Hargrove, sacrifice fly by Al Oliver and single by Richie Zisk. [The Sporting News]
