The Giants romped to their seventh consecutive victory, 9-5, over the Cubs, as Larry Herndon and Darrell Evans each drove in a pair of runs and Jack Clark and Mike Ivie hit solo homers. Vida Blue got credit for his sixth straight win after a season-opening loss. The ace lefty struck out 11 in seven innings and was lifted after making 121 pitches on a warm afternoon.

The Giants jumped to a 4-1 lead in the first frame. Evans drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Herndon two with a bases-loaded single. The fourth tally came across on a wild pitch.
