Coming from behind in both games, the Giants took a doubleheader from the Cardinals, winning the opener, 5-4, in 12 innings and taking the nightcap, 4-3, in 10 innings to complete the sweep of the four-game series. Terry Whitfield cracked a solo homer with two out in the 12th to produce the winning run in the first game. The Giants trailed, 4-2, in the eighth but tied the contest on a single by Vic Harris -- his first hit of the season -- a balk, base on balls, sacrifice fly by Jack Clark and singles by Darrell Evans and Mike Ivie.

In the second game, Whitfield led off the bottom of the 10th with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice and scored on Marc Hill's pinch-hit single.
