After John Stearns walked, Valentine bounced into a fielder's choice, scoring Montanez.

In the eighth inning, Steve Henderson walked, advanced to third on a single by Stearns and scored on Valentine's single. Elliott Maddox tripled home Lenny Randle in the third inning.
