After Jack Clark's circus catch had saved the game in the top of the ninth, the Giants pushed across a run in the bottom of the inning to nip the Pirates, 3-2. The Pirates, who were trailing, 2-0, going into the last inning, tied the score after one out. Ed Ott, Phil Garner and pinch-hitter Rennie Stennett singled to cut the Frisco lead to 2-1. After Jim Fregosi flied out, pinch-hitter Steve Brye singled Garner home with the tying tally. Omar Moreno then hit a deep drive to right that Clark caught to prevent the Pirates from forging ahead.

The winning marker for the Giants came when Clark beat out a bunt with one out, stole second, continued to third on catcher Ott's bad throw and scored on Larry Herndon's line single to center. The first two Giant runs were driven in by Willie McCovey on an infield out and a single. [The Sporting News]
