The Royals made it eight straight wins as Amos Otis swatted a grand-slam homer in the first inning to trigger a 5-0 whitewash of the Blue Jays. Paul Splittorff tossed a five-hitter, struck out four and walked none to gain his third victory of the campaign.

Willie Wilson and Hal McRae opened the game with back-to-back singles and executed a double steal. With two out, Darrell Porter received an intentional walk to load the bases and Otis then belted a 2-2 pitch into the left-center seats. [The Sporting News]
