Greg Gross had two run-scoring singles and Rick Reuschel went the distance for the first time this season as the Cubs decisioned the Pirates, 5-1. Gross' first hit came in the third inning and put the Cubs ahead, 1-0.

After the Pirates tied the game on Ed Ott's RBI single in the top of the fifth, Gross' second hit in the bottom of inning scored Ivan DeJesus who had doubled. DeJesus' second double made it 3-1 in the seventh and Dave Rader singled home two more markers in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
