A dropped throw on an attempted forceout enabled the winning run to score as the Angels snapped the A's five-game winning streak with a 2-1 victory in 11 innings. Don Baylor beat out an infield hit to start the decisive stanza, went to second on a sacrifice and to third on Rance Mulliniks' long fly. Tony Solaita drew an intentional walk and Brian Downing drew an unintentional walk.

Rick Miller then followed with a grounder to short on which Mario Guerrero threw to Steve Staggs for what should have been the inning-ending out. But Staggs dropped the ball and Baylor scored the winning run. The Angels' other run came on a homer by Baylor in the fifth.
