Mike Ivie, batting for the first time against his former teammates, hit a sacrifice fly to break a 5-5 tie and Larry Herndon drove in an insurance marker with a single to give the Giants a 7-5 triumph over the Padres. The winning rally started when Darrell Evans singled and moved to third on Terry Whitfield's single. Whitfield took second on the throw and Vic Harris received an intentional walk.

Ivie then hit a fly to left to snap the deadlock and Herndon's single added the seventh Giants' run. The Giants had trailed, 5-1, but eventually tied the game in the fifth on Willie McCovey's 494th career homer with a man on base. [The Sporting News]
