. . . where the 1970s live forever!
A three-run homer by Carlton Fisk in the third inning propelled the Red Sox to a 6-3 victory over the Yankees in opener of a showdown series. The Yankees, who saw their American League East Division lead trimmed to 3½ games, closed to within one run in the eighth when Dave Kingman belted his third homer in three games. The Red Sox, however, clinched the victory with two runs in their half. Carl Yastrzemski hit his 25th homer. Fisk followed with a triple and scored on George Scott's single. [The Sporting News]
