A two-run double by Bob Boone in the fourth inning backed up the pitching of Randy Lerch as the Phillies defeated the Cardinals, 3-1. The complete game was Lerch's first since beating the Cardinals July 12. The Cards' only tally came in the fourth when Garry Templeton doubled and Keith Hernandez singled.

In the Phillies' half, Jay Johnstone walked and took third on a single by Garry Maddox. After Maddox stole second, Boone hit his double. The Phillies added an insurance run in the fifth. Bake McBride singled, stole second and scored on a double by Larry Bowa. [The Sporting News]
