Traveling the distance for the 16th time this season, Mike Torrez allowed only two hits and pitched the Yankees to a 2-0 victory over the Blue Jays. Jerry Garvin, who also hurled the route for the Blue Jays, gave up five hits, including a homer by Cliff Johnson in the second inning and singles by Thurman Munson and Chris Chambliss around a walk to Reggie Jackson for another run in the sixth. Garvin picked Jackson off second in the fourth inning, marking the 22nd time this season that the rookie had nabbed one. [The Sporting News]
