. . . where the 1970s live forever!
Rick Wise gained his 10th victory and Bill Campbell picked up his 24th save in relief performances as the Red Sox defeated the Rangers, 8-4. Wise replaced Luis Tiant in the third and retired 13 straight batters before giving up a run in the seventh on a double by Pat Putnam and triple by Kurt Bevacqua. Campbell took over in the eighth and yielded the Rangers' final run in the ninth on a homer by Bevacqua.

Rick Burleson started the Red Sox scoring with a homer on the first pitch thrown by Gaylord Perry. The Rangers went ahead against Tiant with two runs in the second, but the Red Sox took command by scoring three times in the third on a triple by Rick Miller, singles by Burleson, Denny Doyle and Fred Lynn and a sacrifice fly by Carlton Fisk. As the game went on, the Red Sox proceeded to increase their lead with the aid of a double and triple by Carl Yastrzemski. [The Sporting News]
