A three-run homer by Oscar Gamble carried the White Sox to a 4-2 victory over the Brewers and enabled Steve Renko to win his second game since being obtained from the Cubs. Renko was lifted in the seventh inning. After Dave Hamilton relieved, the White Sox called on Silvio Martinez, who had come up from Iowa (American Association), and the rookie gained his first major league save.

Gamble's homer in the first inning followed a pass to Ralph Garr and single by Richie Zisk. The Brewers pulled close with two runs off Renko, but the White Sox iced their victory with a triple by Brian Downing and single by Wayne Nordhagen in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
