The Tigers snapped the White Sox' six-game winning streak, 3-1, with Aurelio Rodriguez' two-run homer in the second inning helping Fernando Arroyo to his first victory since June 15. Tito Fuentes singled home Rodriguez with Detroit's final run in the ninth.

The Sox scored in the first on a bases-loaded infield out. Reliever John Hiller put down a Chicago threat in the ninth, striking out Lamar Johnson with runners at first and third, issuing a walk to Jim Spencer, but fanning Chet Lemon. [The Sporting News]
