Sal Bando drove in two runs with a gift double and Von Joshua added a two-run homer in a four-run seventh inning to pace the Brewers to a 6-3 victory over the Yankees. A single by Ed Romero and walk to Steve Brye preceded Bando's liner which center fielder Mickey Rivers misjudged and allowed to fall behind him.

Sparky Lyle relieved starter Mike Torrez and was greeted by Joshua's shot into the right field stands. Southpaw Mike Caldwell went the distance for the winners. The Yankee runs came in the seventh when Lou Piniella walked, Reggie Jackson doubled and Graig Nettles unloaded his 22nd homer of the season. [The Sporting News]
